This is Me

Each day I lose a little of myself
God only knows what I’m transforming into
I’m not even sure I like the person I’m becoming
Tired of play a role … of not having a voice
Cause at the end of the day no one listens
If I’m voiceless then I’m a mime going through the motions of life
In an imaginary box trying to break free
All the while smiling
Dressed up like a clown putting on a show … yeah that’s me.

It’s not depressing
Life happens to us all.
At times makes us feel small, but others rise back up.
I continue to fall.
Because I continue to dream that one day I will be known for more.
One day I will put away the games and the tears and I’ll be extraordinary.
One day I won’t cry myself to sleep reliving my hurts.
One day I won’t depend on anyone to make it go away.
I’ll just be me.
Me.
ME.
Wake up!  And realize the world isn’t perfect.
That the imaginary box you live in is your shelter and once it breaks it will cut you like glass.
Somebody’s going to break your heart.
Molest you.
Talk down to you.
And they’ll still expect you to smile.
You’ll be sick … and they’ll still expect you to move.
To smile and make them laugh
That’s what they expect … so that’s what you do.
Never forgetting the past.
Not caring about the future.
About yourself.

You were this young girl filled with sass.
You were brilliant and highly intelligent and extremely versed.
What happened?
What made you so insecure?
Who killed that spark inside you that would have made you great?
Who killed you?  They buried you in the ground six feet under before you had a chance to live.

I was molested.
On Broad Street in broad daylight by a drunken man.  As people walked by.  He forced his hand down my pants and tried to ram his tongue down my throat.  I’d never been kissed.  I was a good girl, waiting for the man of my dreams to be his princess.  In that moment I realized that he’d never come and that there was nothing really perfect in this world.  That was the first time tried to kill myself.
The first time I realized my thoughts didn’t matter.
The second time was when I fell in love and the man dumped me.  When it didn’t work I began to self medicate, Red Bull in the AM and pain killers in the evening.  It was the only way I could sleep without crying.
The third time was when he got married.
That itch has come back and I don’t know why.  I should be happy but I feel like I’m dying anyway.
I’ve begun to crumble.  My back throbs and the dreams have returned.
I feel inferior to so many.
I just want to be happy and to make everyone proud.
To feel proud of myself.
I hurt the people I care about.
I keep almost dying.  It’s scary.  Feeling like your life is about to end and sometimes wanting it to.
I hate feeling like I’m wrong and I don’t know anything.
I miss having the feeling of knowing.

Slit Wrists

Stare in the mirror as blood drips

I have nothing to hold onto

I bet slit wrists feel better than a fake smile

Teeth grinding as cheeks rise upward

No smiling but there are tears of happiness

As the blood flows

Life ends

I have nothing to hold onto

Nothing is mine

I borrow everything

Nothing is mine

Smiles have been borrowed from someone else

So have kisses

But I now I have slit wrists

Those are mine

I created them

Blade pressed down deep enough to break the vein

Pressed down deep just like the hurt

Etched in my heart

Dammit thinking hurts too much

Trusting causing wounds that won’t form scars

It never heals

Caused by reliving your unspoken lies

You laid me down a thousand times

Not this time

Not this time

This time they all will see the blood trail as it leads to my sheets

As I lay on my back for the last time

Inhale

Exhale

Wallowing in the pain

Slit wrists

That’s not it

Breaking a heart is like pulling a trigger

So I’ve been dead for about a month

Pretending to live

Little Ebony

This is for my daughter

As I watch her run in the grass

I smile as her warm brown eyes dance as she spins around playing in the sunshine

My little girl

In her sundress colored lavender with ruffles all around

My sweet baby with her infectious giggle that everyone adores

Ebony which beautifully depicts what she is and who she will embody

Ebony

Black and beautiful

Mommy’s beautiful little angel

Watching over me turning what should’ve been memories into mere dreams …

Ebony

I would’ve named her Ebony

Five months from now and her daddy would’ve loved her

Ebony

He would’ve kissed each of your tiny fingers and toes

He would tattooed your name across his heart

He would’ve taken on the world for you

For Us

Ebony Chante

Perfect

Mommy would’ve called you her little miracle that forced her way into the world

Conceived into a fickle unwilling womb

Made in love

Ebony

I know you were there

I felt you move

But I didn’t tell anyone

Not even your daddy

Who I swear to God would have loved you

Ebony

Mommy’s tummy got hard and she still denied you out of fear

I remember how it felt when you left me

Empty and alone

Mommy took a test when she knew you had gone

Oh Ebony I miss you so …

Now more than ever

Because daddy’s gone and I fear he’ll never

He’ll never get the chance to talk to you like did

He’ll never get the chance to love you

He’ll never her me say

Ebony Chante

Perfect in every way

Her smile

Her laugh

And the silly things she say

I will love you everyday

Zombie

The alley is cold at this time of night
Crouched close to the cool cement doesn’t touch my behind
Odd noises keep me alert and guessing
How long will I be able to hide?
I have nothing
Yet they still chase
I have nothing
Yet they still stalk me
Wanting something
I know not what it is
Something that I would gladly give
If I had it to offer
Confessing such would surely end in my slaughter
I shiver and wonder how long it would take
For them to end me
For them to
Take, take, take
All of me
Making me one of them
My heartbeat crashes repeatedly against my chest cavity
How long before I become mindless and unfeeling?
Maybe not feeling would be better than the fear within me now?
I cough … the sound echoes through the place that offers me shelter
The footsteps are closing in on me
Their moans are getting louder …
I’m back against the wall
I’m overwhelmed by their presence I know there’s no escape
I clench my eyes shut and except my fate
I am a zombie …

Sea of Loneliness

Sea of Loneliness

Green eyes made for a heavy heart
My stomach clenched
My face heated from anger
Why does he do this to me?
  He gets under my skin.
He acts like what he’s doing is innocent
I walk by them clenched teeth, and tightened jaw.
Neither of them notices
They both don’t care
Him and her
Even when I saw him first
I loved him first
Yet she maybe better
Or better yet her love is newer
However nowhere near as sweet and genuine
I question: How can he love a love that isn’t mine?
Lust has circled us for all this time
Now that he could grab what’s rightful his
Put us both out of our misery with a wash of satisfaction and release
He acts as if my love is secondary
This new suitor has big blue eyes
He must’ve gotten lost in them
And forgotten
So as I walk by swiftly with a broken heart
I try not to stare … because
Nothing was really there in the first place
Just two young kids
Hormones raging
Scared to make a move
Scared to get hurt
I was so slow to move
That he side stepped and I missed being able to pull him into my arms
I’ve fallen into a sea of loneliness

Night to Day

Night to Day

People should stay nameless faces

Passing by

Seeming farther away than the stars that twinkle

High above in the universe

Mystical and beautiful but impossible to hold

Even though you reach out and point

Beautiful stars

That shine too bright

They claim to brighten the night sky

Sometimes I find peace in the reality that is darkness

The sad reality that some say is cold and bitter

Silence that doesn’t lie yet does cause pain

Like Ruthless people

That spit their venom to save themselves

From innocence

And purity of honesty and love

They slither their way into the night

But are restless there

They want another victim

I shall not be theirs

Instead I will look to the sun

And learn to love it’s light, it’s warmth, and it’s shelter
