What I'd Tell My Fourteen Year Old Self

What I would tell my fourteen year old self …

To my naïve innocent self, poor girl that dreams of romance but doesn’t know the stress behind it.  A man will not save you … you are not a princess.  You are just a girl, that will grow into a woman, that is not spineless, but that spine that she does have is weak and easily bends and breaks.  You are a woman that will fall in love to easily.   Heed my warning and stop the trend before we become … me.

Stop lusting over the impossible.  Stop crying when things go wrong.  People see this as weakness and will think that you are not strong.  They are foolish but so are you.  You believe them.  You believe them when they call you ugly or stupid.  You let people use you.

Throughout your life you have been used.

Please heed my warning … stop the trend …

Don’t let friends use you and discard you when they feel like it.  Don’t let lovers do the same.  Don’t let strangers you don’t know borrow your new things just to feel liked and popular.  Don’t worry about the small town you grew up in … don’t worry about those people.  They won’t worry about you.  Don’t worry about the most popular girl in school.  Don’t wish to be her, even though she does get most of the boys’ attention, you don’t want to get it the way she got it.  Don’t envision yourself smaller, the reality is you’re big, but you’re beautiful just the same.  Don’t be afraid to talk to people your personality literally lights up room when you feel engaging and comfortable.  Remember that I love you, which means, you love you, and that’s all that matters.

Don’t become devastated by your failures and losses.  Everyone has both but it’s how you deal which will determine the outcome of your life.  Give everything your all and your heart so that you can be confident that you put your soul into something … even if others claims it’s simply not good enough.  You are a kind and pure heart full of thought and expression.  You close your eyes and are gifted with the ability to see other worlds, to create storylines and life.  You are an artist … not a business woman.  Know this within yourself and fight for it, it will lead you on a far better path than you are now I promise.

Love your mother and your sister … and when you get ready to go to college stay on campus.  This may allow for a new bond to grow without you being present.  Meet new people, experience new things.  Don’t become stale and don’t allow your stories to do the same.  Most importantly, don’t forget to breathe.  You just made it into high school for crying out loud, scream extra loud at the pep rallies, dance extremely crazy at dances.  Enjoy life and don’t worry!

Everything will be okay.
